3D nail art came and went, now the newest beauty fad from across the big pond has reached Berlin: The city's very first dry bar has been setting a new hair trend in motion for the past ten weeks. Even if the Charlottenburg salon has nothing to do with the popular US-American drybar chain, the principle remains the same. Already a long-term hit overseas and in the United Kingdom and on the way to making waves here, the main idea is a simple one: Waves and curls with cocktail names that hold for up to six days. The classic 60's perm is in for a grand return, with emancipated urban women following their grandmother's examples.
Dry Bar is owned and run by Sascha Stolic, who discovered the trend while travelling with his wife before bringing it back to Berlin. A walk-in-service makes it easier for busy customers to skip appointments and drop by the salon whenever. But those looking for a simple Shampoo & Set will find quickly find themselves at loss here.
So what's behind the name? It describes the technique used to create the temporary swirls. After a shampooing session with or without a head massage, customers sit down at a long counter that looks like a cross between bar and barber shop for their drybar treatment. Drybar also offers shampooing and head massages for men and uses only Moroccanoil products. The light colors and high maintenance interior make it seem very possible that a local celeb might walk in any minute, and highly unlikely that Students with a small budgets will be stopping by all that much. Cooperations with MCM and the surrounding hotels have provided a steady stream of customers for Stolic's salon, where guests are greeted at the door with champaigne flutes.
The Dry Bar hosts bachelor/ette parties, birthdays and company events, where guests are styled and given tips on how to keep their magnificent dos for as long as possible. Food and drinks not included.
