Pictoplasma | Staying in Character

Over 20 exhibitions, conferences, workshops and performances will feature the best contemporary designers and illustrators around. This year's slogan, "Post-Digital-Monsters", refers to the return to analog illustration techniques. The participating artists have grown beyond digital media and want to revert to material that is resistant to the constant volatility so characteristic for digital modes of visual communication. The whole thing has been deemed "post-digital" because the process involves not only a recourse towards forgotten media, but also an inclusion of digital elements and principles, like the Copy & Paste mechanism and the development of globally accessible online images.

The so-called Character Walk, where all participating galleries and art spaces open their doors to the general public, is spread throughout the city. The participating venues will exhibit hand-drawn and animated characters and sculptures. The heart of the festival is the Conference at Babylon, where internationally renowned artists will hold lectures and q & a rounds and several films will be screened. The Character lab offers workshops, presentations and lectures and countless parties come nighttime.
