Late Light Shopping | Karl-Marx-Straße In All Its Glory

Looking to bring a little color into the gray season? Then you should head down to Karl-Marx-Straße, where a “Late Night Shopping” event will light up one of Neukölln's largest and longest streets – literally and figuratively - for the second time this year.

“We want to appeal to an audience with an interest in arts and culture, and to let the street shine in a special light” said Susann Liepe, one of the organizers.

It all kicks off on November 15 at 5 p.m. In front of Rathaus Neukölln, when local artists will ornament the stores along the street with light installations. They include the “Fotoboooz” a seemingly normal photo machine that has been reinvented by an artist duo called “immersif”, which will project the pictures taken by the machine onto the facade of the MarxCity shopping center. Then there's “Marxmix” - a colorful light installation adorning the Rathaus' facade. It was designed by Kamil Rhode, who grew up in the neighborhood, and lights up 60 windows on Karl-Marx-Straße.

Fashionisto/as should be interested in the “Concept Store für Mode und Design aus Neukölln”, an agglomeration of fashion from over 30 labels, primarily from Neukölln, that will run for a total of two weeks. The project is the result of a cooperation between NeMoNa, a network for fashion and production. “We're working on developing a long-term fashion department store for next year. This is sort of a trial run,” explained Sabine Hülsebus, NeMoNa's project manager.

The “s...cultur” restaurant across the street from the Rathaus will be serving a special “Licht und Schatten” menu for 33,50 euros (incl. Wine) in light of the event, no pun intended.
