Shakespeare im Park | Henry IV at Görli

On certain days in the summer, crowds flock to New York City's central park to see “A Midsummer Night's Dream”, “Romeo and Juliet” or “As You Like it" outside and for free. “Shakespeare in the Park” is a lonstanding tradtion in NYC, it's been going on since 1954. The jist of it, enabling a broad audience regardless of social background to watch theater, is a thought that has traveled the world and has since been picked up by ensembles at Regent's Park in London, the Bicentennial Park in Syndey and numerous other green spots in cities across the globe. This summer, Berlin will finally receive its very own “Shakespeare in the Park.”

Directors Katrin Beushausen and Brandon Woolf will bring Shakespeare's “Henry IV” to Berlin's summer stage at Görlitzer Park. They've completely remodeled the play, making it a German/English bilingual production. This makes sense, since the show's performers - and audiences – hail from Canada, Spain, Australia, the UK and Germany of course. “Shakespeare im Park” premiered at Görli on August 14.
