Berlin
12. October 2011
This night's company will be personally greeted by Frederick the Great's Master of Ceremony, although the “Old Fritz” himself has excused himself from the evening's festivities. It's only a few steps from lively Spandauer Damm to the Orangerie at Schloss Charlottenburg's reception hall and yet you will feel like you've traveled through time when the night is over. A mix of music, stage and dance performances will run parallel to a feast that is held in proper Rokoko style. “This is a completely new concept. Dinner and concerts usually precede each other at all of our other events” says the Residenzkonzerte's artistic director, Dr. Andrea-Martina Reichel.
After an initial welcome celebration, the Orangerie's side wings are stocked with sweet little tidbits that center around Frederick II's favorite treats. Not only artichockes and asparagus, but also chicken and pike patés were “en vogue” in his day. Before the dessert is served, the Residenzkonzerte's musicians and singers will perform a humorous presentation of Georg Philipp Telemann's musical compositions. The Prussian festivites will find their final climax at a performance of French ballroom dancing popular at the time.
2012 will mark “Old Fritz”'s 300th birthday and has been named the “Year of Frederick” - the authentic performances of the Prussian Amusement pay due regard to this special occasion.
