Critical art has never sat right with powerful sovereigns. So when Molière's "Tartuffe" criticized the church and its institutions in the 1600's, the play was immediately banned. Director Christian Kneisel has now taken up the play, which is still explosive and politically relevant today, to show Molière's struggle for his play and artistic freedom.
"Tartuffe" will be playing until January 18 at the Brandenburger Theater, which is certainly worth a trip out of the city.
