High quality drinks in a clubby atmosphere? Oh yeah! What's been going on in other buzzing metropolises like Stockholm for quite some time is now entering Berlin's club landscape. “Clubs today aren't just clubs. They're bars where you can come to dance” says Ingrid Junker, who runs the recently opened Flamingo club with Conny Opper. These two know what they're talking about: After all, they exported their party concept Breaking Hearts Club into the global clubscene and come from years of night life experience.
Their next coup is a new club in Mitte, located conveniently underneath two S-Bahn arches near Monbijou Park. “It was important to us to create an international night club where high value music and drinks would be appreciated.” But it's not all entirely that simple. Clubbers want to be entertained, so Thursdays mark kick-back bar nights, while the doors to the adjacent club area are opened on the weekend, with alternating live DJs from Berlin and elswhere playing every night. Bartender Rene Tempel, who's worked at Amano Bar and the Bellini Lounge, will get juices flowing with highlights like this season's top seller Orient Margarita – a safron infused tequila with lime juice, orange liqueur and a safron-salt rim.
The venue's interior is furnished with what Ingrid describes as “a mix between industrial charm and modern Art Deco”. Steel bar stools, dark walls and giant mirrored areas contrast typical elements of the golden twenties, silver and copper colors stick out against wooden base material. Flamingo is just what its name suggests: An exotic space for dancing, indulging and having fun.
