The first thing hungry flâneurs will notice are the handwritten stand-up displays and the absolutely agreeable prices painted on them for unusual appetizers, main courses and desserts. No small number of people might consequently find themselves sitting down at one of the rustic wooden tables on Weichselstraße.
Alternating exhibitions as well as regularly held art and theater performances make Kokolores more than just a classic restaurant. “I've had the idea of creating a space that combines all of the things I am passionate about for a long time” says the owner and chef Donata Grodon.
Grodon hails from Poland and is actually a trained actress. But you could easily believe that she had undergone classic culinary education judging from her dishes: We're served a classic salt-dill-cucumber soup alongside freshly baked bread and a spicy pepper dip followed by a lighter main course – spaghetti with a tangy tomato-pepper sauce with roasted vegetables, chicken strips and parmesan. Not only do the plate arrangements look extremely savory, the food really does taste as good as it looks.
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are set aside for bigos, pizza, pasta and fish, but the rest of the week leaves enough space for culinary surprises. “I realized that it's much more fun to decide spontaneously what I want to cook that night.” For the future, Grodon hopes “that Kokolores will establish itself as a late-night location. The main idea is that people stay for drinks after dinner.” (amd)
