EATING OUT
06. February 2012
Finally, Tex-Mex in Friedrichshain! Dawn Nelson and Daniel Bader recently opened up Dirty South, a fast food joint directly across the street from their immensly popular Cupcake shop. Dark wood and golden chandeliers make for a real Wild West atmosphere and framed Mexican recipes decorate the raw Berlin walls.
The menu is small and english only. There are various possible combinations – vegan, vegetarian, with chicken or bacon – not always easy for lazy decision makers. We ended up opting for a vegan Chili and a Chili with Beef Brisket. The Chili was just spicey enough and there is always extra hot sauce for hardboiled spice-lovers. The meat was wonderfully tender and the different types of beans weren't overcooked.
Next were the quesadillas with grilled chicken and beef brisket. Both were seasoned with Pico de gallo, a Mexican salsa made from tomatoes, onions and chili. The pico here tasted fresh and tangy, with a touch of fresh cilantro.
There was still room for more, so we decided to order nachos, served with a fresh and fruity guacamole. Finally, the cocktails. Try the Bloody Mary for a good buzz, Tex-Mex style.
